What a page on this site is
A BestUSAVPS page is a comparison of what VPS providers publish: plan specifications, prices, billing terms, datacenter locations, support scope and the rules in their FAQs and documentation, read on a stated date and cited in a Sources section. Pages are written for people choosing a server in a US datacenter, and they say plainly where a provider does not publish a figure.
Where the numbers come from
- Prices and specifications are read from the provider's own plan page or public API on the day the page is updated. Where an unauthenticated API exists (Hetzner's price API, Vultr's plans and regions endpoints, Linode's types endpoint, OVHcloud's public catalog), it is used in preference to the marketing page.
- Introductory prices are labelled as such and the renewal price is given where the provider states it.
- Quoted statements (a provider's own description of its network, its support scope, its refund rule) are reproduced verbatim and attributed to the page they came from.
- Where a number could not be verified, the page says so or omits it. Nothing is carried over from earlier versions of a page without being re-read at source.
What the site does not do
The site publishes no benchmark measurements of its own and no first-person accounts of using a provider. Earlier versions of some pages contained such material; it could not be sourced and is being removed as each page is revised. Where performance matters to a decision, pages point to the provider's published specifications and to tools readers can run themselves (provider speed-test files, iperf3, fio) on an hourly server before committing.
How providers are rated
A review's rating out of 5 reflects, for a buyer of a US-hosted server at the sizes most people buy (1 to 8 GB):
- Price at the size in question, month to month, in a US location, against the other providers on the site.
- Published terms: refund and trial rules, billing granularity, contract length and renewal pricing.
- What is included: transfer allowance and port statement, backups or snapshots, support scope, locations, operating systems and Windows availability, API.
- Transparency: whether the provider publishes its limits clearly enough for a buyer to plan around them.
The rating text on each review names the specific published rules that raised or lowered the score, so a reader can disagree with the weighting and still use the facts.
How comparison pages are ranked
Each comparison page states its ranking rule before prices are collected, and the rule follows from the page's question: cheapest plan at 2 GB in a US datacenter, transfer allowance per dollar, lowest Windows price with the license included, and so on. A provider that wins one page's rule will lose another's, and it is placed first only on pages whose rule it wins. Independence
BestUSAVPS earns commissions on some links, currently InterServer (direct) and Turbo VPN, is*hosting, Godlike.Host, NordPass and Fiverr (through the Mitgo network). Those links are marked rel="sponsored" with a disclosure line beside the first one on each page. Providers cannot buy a rating, a placement or a review, and the same sourcing method applies to providers with and without a commercial relationship.
Corrections and updates
If a price, plan, location or quoted rule on the site is wrong or out of date, use the contact page and name the page. Verified corrections are applied to the page and its Sources section is updated with the date. Each revised page shows the month its data was read; pages that have not yet been revised to this policy may still show earlier content, and their Sources section, or its absence, is the signal.
